In 2018, Seaguar introduced Gold Label, a superior leader material that perfectly blends strength and thin diameters. The remarkable leader material was launched in limited sizes suitable for saltwater anglers and has received rave reviews.
In 2020, Gold Label was introduced in freshwater-specific sizes and has changed how many anglers select leader material.
Now, three more sizes will be added: 50, 60, and 80 lb test. These sizes answer the request for pound tests suitable for big game applications.
The Gold Standard
Gold Label is 18% thinner than any other 100% fluorocarbon leader made by Seaguar while also 17% stronger. It is truly the best of both worlds and made possible since Seaguar is the inventor of fluorocarbon fishing lines. They control every aspect of fluorocarbon line production, from resin development and preparation to extrusion, winding, and packaging.
With complete oversight of the process, the manufacturing of Gold Label includes a proprietary Double-Structure process that yields unique properties. This exclusive process unites two different fluorocarbon resins: a strong, sensitive fluorocarbon core and a soft, supple, fluorocarbon exterior into the finest leader available, one that has earned the title of Gold Label.
Explicitly designed as a leader material, it is both soft and supple, making for smooth knots while still maintaining strength. Gold Label also has the lowest line memory compared to other Seaguar fluorocarbon leaders, making line management more user friendly.
Introducing Gold Label for Big Game Applications
The new size additions are welcome to Gold Label fans who already trust it for other applications.
Mark Davis, Seaguar pro angler and host of BigWater Adventures TV, has been using Gold Label for four seasons, even before it was first released at ICAST 2018 and said the new line sizes are even more crucial to his fishing success.
“The 40 lb sizes and under have been instrumental to my success since Gold Label was introduced,” he says. “The thinner diameter and added strength have helped me catch more fish during a tough bite and while sacrificing any strength. To me, less than 40 lb test is considered inshore and anything bigger is when you start to get into offshore, big game species. I’d argue that the addition of larger pound tests is even more of a breakthrough than Gold Label was for inshore fishing.”
He reasons that larger fish are even more line shy than many inshore species. “When you get into the blue water that is as clear as a pool, the fish are notoriously line shy. They are bigger, smarter, and have more time to inspect your line before biting your bait,” says Davis.
Davis has already seen real world examples of the effectiveness of 80 lb Gold Label as opposed to other leaders.
“On a recent filming for my show, we had several rods rigged with various leaders and four with Gold Label,” he shares. “It wasn’t long before we had four rods hooked up and they were all Gold Label. You get the same manageability and abrasion resistance as you have come to expect from Seaguar but now have more applications. Gold Label is a next-level fluorocarbon.”
Seaguar Gold Label will now be available in 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 80 lb test ratings, on 25-yard spools. MSRP varies by pound test. 2 lb – 40 lb from 16.99 to 34.99 and new sizes 50 lb, 60 lb, and 80 lb from 38.99 to 57.99.
