On Sunday (02/04/2024), Mr. Bass of Arkansas kicked off its 2024 season at Greers Ferry Lake. The favorable combination of overcast skies and rising air/water temperatures created ideal conditions, resulting in abundant fish catches. Among 114 boats, 67 anglers weighed in five-fish limits, with two anglers having limits exceeding 17 pounds, and a third angler's limit very nearly reaching 17 pounds. However, the tournament's highlight was the number of fish weighing five pounds or more crossing the scales. Cole Lamb claimed the spotlight with an impressive Greers Ferry Lake bass weighing 7.58 pounds, which was the big bass of the event.
In total, five fish exceeded the 5-pound threshold, and among them, three surpassed six pounds. These statistics stand out for a Greers Ferry Lake event. In 2023, the Black Bass Program received 21 tournament reports via the Arkansas Tournament Information Program (ATIP) for Greers Ferry Lake, and none reported fish weighing five pounds or more.
The lake has started 2024 on an exceptional note, raising hopes for continuing this trend with larger fish making their way onto the scales. Congratulations to Cole Lamb for an outstanding performance, securing the Mr. Bass of Arkansas win with 18.09 pounds and claiming the big bass award for the event.
