The Andrew Hulsey State Fish Hatchery in Hot Springs recently stocked 662 surplus Florida Largemouth Bass into Lake Hamilton. These bass (from the 2023 spawn) were recently harvested from a hatchery broodstock holding pond. Most of the AGFC Florida bass produced at the hatchery are raised to fingerling-size (2-inch) and stocked in late May and June into receiving waters.
Since the bass from this most recent stocking were in the hatchery pond all summer and into fall, many of them are much larger (ranging from 4 to 8 inches in length). These bass should have a great shot at survival following stocking. Give some of them seven or eight years to grow and they may be a 10-pound trophy!
