Oceanside, California – September 30, 2013 – Can anyone beat returning champion, Marty Mood? Yes, if the other 41 competitors, including eight Americans, competing in the upcoming October 30-November 3 Hobie Fishing World Championship have anything to say about it. It will not be easy though. Marty serves as a pilot in the U.S. Navy so he is more than capable of putting up a good fight. In fact, just this week he received confirmation that he has been granted a military leave to defend his title and lead team U.S.A. to stardom.
The international field is daunting. 41 competitors from four continents and 16 countries will be vying for the chance to win the coveted World Champion title. The anglers will converge on the Bemm and Snowy Rivers in Victoria, Australia for the third annual event presented by Daiwa® and hosted by Hobie Cat® Australasia. Major supporting sponsors Lowrance® Electronics and Ram® Mounting Systems are being joined this year by newcomer Power-Pole®.
Anglers competed in qualifying events throughout the spring and summer including the IFA Championships, Kayak Wars, Jamaica Bay Classic and Paddle Palooza. Many have competed, but seven have made it to the top.
Rob Bray – Eureka, CA
Justin Carter- Charleston, SC
Tommy Eubanks - Baton Rouge, LA
Mark DeLaRosa- Houston, TX
Tom Michael- Mount Ephraim, NJ
Marty Mood- Pensacola, FL
Benton Parrott- Spanish Fort, AL
In addition, Hobie Cat Fishing managers and hosts of Hobie Outdoor Adventure, Morgan Promnitz and Keeton Eoff, will be leading the charge.
Anglers will be in search of the feisty black bream; pound for pound one of Australia’s most challenging game fish. Anglers will compete in identically rigged Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14’s propelled by Hobie’s patented MirageDrive® system and fitted with Lowrance electronics, Ram Mounting Systems and Power-Pole micro-anchors
Live weigh-ins will take place on each of the three days of competition with anglers weighing three fish per day. This is tough and challenging water for fishing. Defending champions Scotty Baker (2011) and Marty Mood (2012) will have to be at their best game if they want to take another crown. Can they do it or is there another champion on the sidelines? November 3 will tell the story.
