(Guntersville, AL.) – Scottsboro’s husband wife duo of Danny and Virginia Buckner scored a great victory on a hot Alabama Saturday to win the Lady Bass Anglers Association’s Alabama Tornado Relief Charity Bass Fishing Tournament on Lake Guntersville.
The Buckner’s brought in a three fish limit of 13.14 pounds of bass to the scales. They also claimed big bass honors for the day with a 5.74-pound lunker, and claimed an extra cash prize, as they were the highest finishing team with a female angler.
“We caught our fish early on grass and had a good limit,” stated Danny, “but we didn’t have any big fish so we went deeper and caught bigger fish on crankbaits (Lucky Craft 2.5).
“She wasn’t any help today” Danny went on to say when referring to wife Virginia, but then said with a chuckle, “she’s pretty good with a dip net though.”
Second place went to the team of Pam Martin-Wells and Curtis Sanchez who caught 12.81 pounds of bass. Martin-Wells’ better half Steven was a member of the third place team along with Gary Howington and this duo brought 10.39 to the scales.
Fourth was the team of Jason Dabbs and Shane Dick with 8.88, and following them in fifth was the team of Richard and Kathy Walker who caught 8.59 pounds of bass.
Taking the $200 cash prize of the team with highest finishing with a youngster in the boat were the South Carolina team of Lance Owens and Danielle Dosthon.
The LBAA gave $1,601 in cash to Lindsey King of the Marshall County Visitors Bureau and Laura Covey Vice President of the Marshall County United Way to go toward helping tornado victims in Marshall County. This money raised because of today’s tournament, and an after tournament raffle in which many local and national organizations contributed items toward making it a success.
