ONTARIO, Calif.: Okuma has been in the low profile baitcast reel game for quite some time with players like the Helios, Komodo, Cerros and Citrix reels.  This year Okuma introduces the Serrano in a smaller, more compact body design, priced for the everyday fisherman.

Okuma’s new Serrano reels feature a lightweight, corrosion resistant graphite body and side plates and are designed with a new, more compact body, all fitting nicely in the palm of your hand. Within this new design you will find the Serrano feature packed, sharp to look at, and priced right.

“The new platform that the Serrano is designed on is very exciting,” stated John Bretza, Product Development Manager.  “We have been striving for a more compact baitcast reel for some time, and this reel really hits the sweet spot in size, comfort, and affordability.”

The Serrano features a 6BB + 1RB precision stainless steel bearing drive system for long, smooth casting and the Quick-Set anti-reverse bearing bodes well for solid hook sets.  The precision cut, high strength brass main and pinion gears are smooth running and very durable.  The Serrano has plenty of stopping power with multi-disc drag washers for consistent performance.  And gone are the days of the professional overrun with the externally adjustable magnetic cast control system that helps to slow the spool in conditions that call for extra control and finesse.  Speaking of spool, the Serrano is built around a 33.5mm machined aluminum, black anodized spool bringing the overall size of the reel down to a compact platform. Another great feature of the Serrano is the double paddle 95mm aluminum swept handle arm with comfortable handle knobs developed from golf grip material for all day cast and retrieve comfort.   With a 6.5:1 and 7.2:1 gear ratio, you have a couple of options to choose from.  This reel also matches up nicely with the Okuma Serrano series of rods that are currently in the Okuma lineup.

Serrano Low Profile Baitcast Reels have a retail price of $89.99 and are backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

The ITX Carbon Spinning Reels are a light weight, compact bodied spinning reel constructed of rigid C-40X long strand carbon fiber.  This C-40X process is 25% stronger than standard graphite reels and is featured in the body, side plates and rotor of the ITX making it perfect for your freshwater and light inshore needs.

“These compact reels are built tough,” states John Bretza, Product Development Manager.  “We developed the ITX as a compact bodied reel, built for the tough conditions of both fresh and light saltwater use making it perfect for everything from bass to snook, redfish and specks.”

The ITX features a multi-disc, carbon fiber drag system with Okuma’s Hydro Block Gasket, keeping water out and your drag running smooth.  The 7HPG +1RB High Performance, grease packed bearings keep the reel running smoothly along with the precision machine cut brass pinion gear.  And the Quick-Set anti reverse roller bearing stops the reel on a dime.  ITX reels are designed with Okuma’s CFR, Cyclonic Flow Rotor technology which sweeps water away from the two-toned anodized machined aluminum spool.  The 1,000, 2,500, 3,000 and 4,000 size reels all come standard with 6.0:1 high speed gearing. One of the key features to the new ITX Carbon reels is the machined aluminum, screw in handle design keeping your handle running tight with no more loosening screws.

ONTARIO, Calif.:  This year, Okuma is releasing a comprehensive family of cranking rods developed to load and cast crank baits.  This has been a void in Okuma’s extensive bass rod lineup, and this year it will be filled.

The new Okuma Guide Select Cranking rods are built with light and responsive 24-ton, low resin carbon rod blanks and are specifically developed to load and cast crankbaits.  As this technique gains more and more popularity, Okuma wants to stay ahead of the trend and has developed the right rod to get the job done, even on the heaviest of crankbaits.

“Crankbait fishing has really taken off,” states John Bretza, Product Development Manager.  “This is a project we have been working on for several years and have gone back to the drawing board more than once.  We feel that we now have the perfect rod with the perfect actions for throwing everything from lightweight to the big, deep diving crankbaits that are so popular.”

With eight total models in the Guide Select Cranking lineup, you are bound to find the action that you are looking for.  All eight rods are casting models that range from 6-foot 9-inches to 7-foot 10-inches in lengths and feature actions in both Medium and Medium Heavy.  Six of the eight models feature a split grip design, with two of the 7-foot 10-inch models also coming in a full grip design.

The components of the Guide Select Cranking rods are top-notch and were chosen with all day casting in mind.  Fuji KW-Concept angles guides frames were chosen to reduce tangles and Fuji Alconite guide inserts with deep pressed frames keep that insert in place and were designed for braided line and monofilament line use.  The Fuji ACS trigger reel seat features a screw down carbon hood design that locks your reel in place for extra security.  Tapered cork full or split grip configuration depending on your chosen model as well as SeaGuide stainless steel hook keep on each rod.

Guide Select Cranking Rods are available at a retail price of $149.99 – $169.99 and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty.
