RICHMOND, Va. (May 1, 2014) – FLW announced today that the Rayovac FLW Series at the James River presented by Mercury, originally slated for May 1-3, has been cancelled due to high water and unsafe conditions. The event has been rescheduled for Sept. 11-13 and will still be held on the James River. Further information about the takeoff and weigh-in locations will be released as the information becomes available.
“We did not feel like it was fair or safe to send our anglers out in this event,” said Rayovac FLW Series Tournament Director Ron Lappin. “They’re expecting the river to crest today nearly four-feet above flood level, and with the extreme current and the tide pushing against each other it was creating unsafe conditions. From all reports the predictions were that the river was not going to be getting any better over the next two days so with the safety of our anglers in mind we had to make the decision to reschedule the event.”
The Rayovac FLW Series event at the James River will now wrap up the three-event Rayovac FLW Series Northern division season. Pros will fish for a top award of $40,000 plus a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers are casting for a top award consisting of a Ranger Z117 with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.
