The Skeeter Bass Champs Tournament Trail hosted their first North Texas division on Cedar Creek lake, February 19th, 2005. Over 570 anxious anglers waited for safe light at Log Cabin park for the official start of the 2005 season. Temperatures were mild in the middle 50's with a light south wind and a heavy cloud cover. Most teams predicted that numerous limits would be weighed in, however catching the larger bass was going to be the key. When the scales officially closed the team of Bobby Sirmans Sr and Roy Cheaney were awarded the top spot, with a five fish limit weighing in at 24.78 pounds.

Coming in 1st place with 24.78 lbs was the team of Sirmans and Cheaney. The team caught over 20 keepers and enjoyed a bite that lasted the entire day. "The fish we caught mostly came from the upper end of the lake were we found shallow grass during our pre fish. We used two baits all day, a rattle trap and a spinner bait fished slowly through the grass. It was a perfect day for our pattern with wind and heavy clouds," stated Roy. The team won a new Skeeter SX 200, rigged with a Yamaha Outboard, MotorGuide Trolling Motor and Lowrance electronics valued over $34,000. The team also won an additional $5000 from the Skeeter Double Your Money incentive program.

In 2nd place was a team of John Adams and Greg Flemming. The team weighed in a five fish limit totaling 21.70 pounds to take home a check for $4000. Their sack was anchored by the largest Bass of the event which weighed in at 11.88 pounds, collecting an additional $1000. John explained their mid lake pattern which consisted of Texas rigged finesse worms fished in brush piles while on stage, " We fished a lot of areas today to catch our sack, when the big one was in the boat we were hoping it was our turn to win one of these!"

Finishing in 3rd place was the team of Raymond Smith and Tim Cline. Their five fish limit weighed in at 21.24 pounds. They reported that most of their limit was caught on a clown colored spinner bait fished in 2-4 foot depths. They took home $3,000 for their efforts.

The first North Texas event of the 2005 season also featured the Skeeter interactive trailer which drew a huge crowd during the weigh in. Anglers and spectators of all ages enjoyed testing their skills on the fishing simulation games and looking at a Skeeter Boat which rests inside the trailer.

Monte Reagan of Fun-n-Sun Boating Centers introduced a new incentive program for Bass Champs anglers during the event. "We want our customers to know that we support and appreciate them. So for all of the North Texas Bass Champs events we will award $500 to the highest finishing Fun-n-Sun boat which was purchased between 2003-2005", stated Monte. The team of Keith Trimble and Clyde Welker were pleasantly surprised with the announcement, especially when Monte awarded a $500 incentive check to the team just for purchasing their boat from Fun-n-Sun.

The team of Jeff Stevens and Scott Slough won the C.A.S.T. Wireless Lanyard bonus of $250 for being the highest finisher with the new product installed on their boat. Not only did the team install a revolutionary safety device on their rig they also got paid for using it!

Over the past two years, over $100,000 has been paid back in Skeeter bonuses. To win this bonus, all you have to do is be the highest finishing team owning and fishing from a qualified Skeeter boat. Skeeter then matches the bonus winners earnings up to $5,000. There are several ways to win at Bass Champs. There are trivia questions, a flipping contest, smallest fish award, and several open drawings. The crowd is encouraged to participate with the trivia questions and the open drawing that you can qualify for by purchasing a ticket. At each event, a different organization brings workers and volunteers to help with the weigh in. Bass Champs and their sponsors provide the prizes to be drawn for. At this event, over $1,500 worth of prizes were up for grabs benefiting the First Baptist Church of eustace. Bass Champs matched the funds up to $500.
