Joan Davis, West LaFayette, Indiana, has been named the 2003 Lady Amateur Bass Angler of the Year. Her third place finish at the Oklahoma Pro/Am Invitational Bass Tournament at Grand Lake of the Cherokees, Oklahoma, put her just nearly 80 points ahead of her nearest competitor.

In only her second year of competition with the Women's Bass Fishing Association tournament trail, Davis clearly demonstrated her tenacity during the 6 tournaments of 2003. She fished last year's tournament at Grand Lake and then fished Lake Eufaula, Alabama; Lake Seminole, Georgia; Henry Neely Lake, Alabama; and traveled back to Oklahoma to capture the title.

Al Hubbard, press relations for the WBFA said, "Joan made it easy to realize that West LaFayette was in Indiana and not some place in Louisiana. She just kept showing up near the top in every tournament, including a first place at Henry Neely. I sure don't look for her to stay in the amateur division much longer. She is a talented bass angler.

The WBFA is the only professional/amateur bass fishing tournament trail established for lady anglers. The tour is sponsored by Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Minn Kota Trolling Motors, Dekka Batteries, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, and Edilion Bait Company.
