Kelly Jordon posted a commanding win at the first FLW Tour stop last weekend at Lake Okeechobee, FL. Kelly's accomplishment capped a week of Yamaha's dominance of the exposure on-site and on the upcoming FOX Sports Net broadcast of the event. Watch this broadcast featuring all kinds of new technology brought in by FOX such as "hat cam" and the underwater "robo-cam".
A field of 400 anglers began on Lake Okeechobee Wednesday with the hopes of cashing in big. The FLW Tour always begins the season on Lake Okeechobee. "It's a great place to kick off the fishing season" Jordon said, "it is exciting to begin here after the off season". Lake Okeechobee is known world wide for its huge bass.
Jordon claims "the Big "O" is his second favorite lake to fish. His favorite? Jordon hails from Mineola, Texas and calls Lake Fork home, also known for its big bass.
After two days of crowded fishing, Jordon found himself in second place. Day three was tough on Jordon bringing just over 7 pounds to the scales. Now nearly 10 pounds behind the leader on the final day Jordon had some work to do for his title.
"It's a good thing we were on this lake, nobody is ever out of a tournament on Okeechobee," Jordon announced as he held up his largest bass weighing 8 pounds. Jordon had two other 6 pound bass and a smaller 2 pound bass to go with the big one. He came back in dramatic fashion as 2,000 onlookers packed the FLW weigh-in.
Obviously nervous and excited, "It's just such a great accomplishment; I've never won on the FLW Tour before. It is extremely exciting. I don't know what else to say. I didn't think I had it, I thought I needed one more fish." Jordon continued to say "this win will always be special to me".
In addition to winning the $100,000 Jordon also took the early lead in the FLW Tour Angler of the Year race. Jordon will be ready again to retain that lead when the pros gather once again in Florida for the second event.
Yamaha-powered anglers grabbed the top 5 positions of this tournament and subsequently the FLW Angler of the Year standings. At the Wal-Mart Fun Zone, the Yamaha 18-wheeler display featured fishing arcade games for kids, the 4-stroke test-tank, new signage and graphics and 21 pro anglers working with the public for Team Yamaha.
Airing of this tournament will be February 6th (Super Bowl Sunday) at 11am on FOX Sports Net. The Top 5 finishers included Kelly Jordon, Steve Kennedy, Dean Rojas, Toshinari Namiki, and Terry Bolton.
