Hello, everyone. Shin Fukae right here. I wanna explain how to use a free rig during springtime. So, basically, the spawning season. The fishing real, real close to the shallow water. Right? Less than maybe...so basically, 5-foot for the largemouth, and then maybe 10-foot, less than 10-foot for the smallmouth. As soon as they spawning, they're not moving much. So, we pick the wacky rig and Texas rig, whatever, the last couple year, but we use free rig because the wacky rig is good for the spawning season. But when I got the wind blow hard, and something like that, it's hard to make a casting and it's hard to...the bait in front of the fish.
But the free rig right here, I make tie-on hooks and free rig weight from the D-Shad end. It's got something combination rig right here. It's got weight, but this weight's going down real quick to the bottom. But when I put on a hook type of bait, I put on the Yamamoto D-Shad right here, or Senko, whatever.
It's going after the weight. That means it looks like between... When you throw the bait, it looks like Texas rig, but it's going Carolina Rig. Then, no weight. It's got three types of different actions together. So, the fish, especially the spawning season, fish want to bite, especially, windy days, and whatever, you got current, and everything. It don't bother me because it's got weight.
So, this is what I set up for the springtime for the free rig. Right here. Super easy. Nothing secret. Super easy.
And the free rig is we can use one-size smaller weight compared to Texas rig all the time. When I'm using the Texas rig in 3/8, we can use a quarter. Yeah, for the free rig. Yeah, I'm using, basically, the 14-pound, 15-pound a lot. Then, when I fish the open water, I'm using a 12 sometimes, but it depends on how big the fish, and where I fish. And, yeah, when I go to Florida, I put on a 20 to 25-pound fluorocarbon. Yeah.
But when you're using the longer leader you don't bother nothing. I'm using the 20-foot leader on my spinner, yes. It's super long. Yep. Why? Because during a tournament, I always set hooks so hard. That leader is kinda shock leader. The braided line no stretch. Right? I make a shorter leader, it sometime break. Yeah. Then, when I got a scratch on my line, I just cut it. Then, retie it. It's super easy during a tournament. Then, after the tournament, still I have a 15 foot. Yeah, leader. So, save more time and catch more fish.
I got one. Yep, on the free rig. I feel it. I said soon as it can get to the bottom, then, I wait maybe two, three seconds. Then, my fishing line's [vocalization]. Just like a Carolina rig, and drop shot. That's a good largemouth. This is what I needed at the last tournament. He choking. He choke. Uh-oh, a little bit bleeding, but he ate the free rig. It really works.
