Glenn: Hey folks. Glenn May here with BassResource.com. I'm here at the Savage Gear booth at ICAST 2015 checking out some brand new stuff. And you got to see what caught my eye here. Now I've seen some swimbaits, the 6-inch swimbaits, they got the 8-inch swimbaits, and there's even the big 12-inch swimbaits. Well, now that's even been outdone. Check this baby out. I have Maas here. Look at this. Look what he designed. This is a 16-inch swimbait. It's a beauty. Tell me a little bit about this.
Maas: Well, the idea is that with these big swimbaits that we've seen, the bigger the better more or less. The pull power and the draw power of these rainbow trout when they're stocked on the bass lakes is just amazing. Those really big, lunker fish will strike bass but also largemouth bass. They will just eat a rainbow trout just like that. So even though this seems quite grotesque, this is actually a one, fantastic fish-catching lure.
Glenn: Now how much does that weigh?
Maas: This is about a pound and a half.
Glenn: Now can I just throw that with a regular swimbait rod?
Maas: I still have pain in my elbow.
Glenn: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
Maas: It takes some practice but you can throw it.
Glenn: Really? And you catch some huge lunkers with that beast.
Maas: Huge lunkers with that.
Glenn: Okay. How much does this retail for?
Maas: This one is 59.95 I believe. It's very, very durable bait. As you can see it's reinforced. I've caught musky and pike on this several times. The thing about this Line Thru Trout is when the fish actually bites, the lure is actually shot away from the busy end. So the hook just sits in here, and this goes up the trace.
Glenn: This is an actual cable, guys. This is a cable.
Maas: Yeah, this is the pre-rigged version. So we pre-rigged this for the Musky Boys. So this a 130 pound, 49-strand stainless steel wire. So it just comes pre-rigged like that. The bass guys, they tend to just break the mono, all the fluorocarbon straight through, and they can choose the hook of their own liking.
Glenn: Perfect. So when is this going to be available?
Maas: This is available right now actually, so they can place orders with Savage Gear USA on the 16-incher.
Glenn: Fantastic. Okay. Got to check that one out. That is an amazing looking bait, guys. Just amazing. It's a mammoth. Now you have something else that's really unique. This is a neat thing that I just . . . for bass fishing.
Maas: I always wanted to make a little nymph out of this TPE material, and it's been quite difficult because now we're down in one and a half and two-inch sizes, and of course the smaller things gets the more complicated to make the mass production tool. The Mayfly Nymph is a multi-species bait, but we found that this finesse bait right here for bedding bass and smallmouth in clear water is just unreal. If you see the fish, you will catch it.
Glenn: So how would I rig that bait?
Maas: This one comes pre-rigged. I've just cut the hook off here, but we actually put a 4X size 3 single hook on there, so you can actually hook and hold the bigger fish. You can use this of course for salmon, and trout, etc., but for bass, it's just phenomenal.
Glenn: I can see this like in the back in of a drop shot; or split shot rig, maybe in drop shot, something like that?
Maas: Yeah, either that or you just free line it like you would fish a Senko or anything that would free fall in a spot or on a bedding bass. I'll show you in the tank and you'll understand.
Glenn: Fantastic. Thank you so much. This is really, really some cool stuff that you just want to see coming out from most other manufacturers. This is awesome stuff. Check it out guys.
