Let's talk about bass fishing in the spring. What is it all about? Is it all about sight fishing? Eighty percent, but not 100% because we got to figure out sometime where the fish are at before they start to spawn.
We all think spring and spawning, spring and spawning, but there is several weeks where the fish are lethargically sitting out in front of spawning bays, which will be a big sandy pocket or a nice protected cove where the water's not getting a lot of impact from the wind and it's a little warmer. Those fish want to sit out in front of it and wait for everything to get right.
And when Mother Nature tells them to go, they'll go. So think 80% spawning, but the 20% is where are they at. Where are they at before they get there?
If you're the guy who can land on them before they go in and spawn, they're usually grouped up and they're sized equally. So if you find one big one, and a lot of times it could be just on the inside of a point leading into a pocket. Carolina rigging, DT10, something like that, they're just staged up.
So when you think spring, don't think just sight fishing. Think about where the bass is sitting before it's time for him to make that final move. Once you figure that out, you'll catch more fish in the spring, and I promise you they're gonna be bigger.
