We've been fishing a Neko Rig since I was a teenager. It was just called a Wacky Rig with a nail weight in it. I mean, and then, you know when the Neko come out, I was like, what the heck are they talking about, Neko Rig? You know, what it is a Neko Rig? I mean, I Googled it, and I watched a video and I'm like, man, we've been doing that for 20 years. We just put it...you know, we just called it a Wacky Rig with a nail in it, you know.

Glenn: Yeah.

Todd: But, it's evolved, and we very seldom fished a Wacky Rig without a nail in it at home growing up, you know. I mean, we always put a nail in it.

Hey everybody, Todd Faircloth here. I wanna talk to you guys about a great new hook. We've come out with Gamakatsu, the Cover Neko. Super excited about this new hook. You know, a Neko has kind of taken the fishing world by storm as of late. It's a hot, new technique, and we've got a really, really crafty setup here that we've come out with. I wanna talk to you guys about how I would approach and fish a lake in pre-spawn and spawn with a Neko.

This is a Cover Neko, so it means we can fish it weedless. And, we can throw it around a lot of different types of cover, whether it be grass, wood, or rock. But in the pre-spawn and spawn times of the year, I kind of tend to target the outside of the cover, because a lot of times the fish aren't tucked in real tight, particularly when they're spawning. So, I want to cast beside those objects or targets, whether it's a laydown, whether it's a dock, whether maybe it's a bush, or whatever, and I want to kind of try and visualize where a fish might be spawning around that cover and cast past my target and work it slowly back.

I'll show you guys how I rig it up here. I've got a nail weight in the head of it here. This is a pretty heavy one. They make all types of sizes of it. And, you just bring it down like so. It's got a good keeper on it. And I hook it in there. And there you have the Neko Rig. But what's really neat about this deal is it has a swivel, and what the swivel does is when a Neko falls, it kind of has a spiraling effect to it. And as over time, your line's gonna create some memory in it and cause some twist, and then the swivel prevents that from happening over time.

When you're fishing, I always like to use a spinning outfit, you know. And, I like it because I can skip the bait up underneath there, you don't have to worry about overruns, I can cast it a long ways. A lot of times you're dealing with a light weight in the head of the bait. You're fishing it on light line, I'd say 10 to 12-pound leader, most of the time, sometimes even 8. So, the reason for the light line is it just gives the bait a more natural appeal. And, if you put this bait on 20-pound Fluorocarbon or 16-pound Fluorocarbon or, you know, big braid or something like that, it's just gonna take a lot of the life-like action out of it. So, that's why I choose a spinning rod setup, 7'4", generally 10 to 12-pound test Fluorocarbon leader with a, you know, 20 to 15-pound test braided line as my mainstay, and that's my setup for fishing a Neko Rig.

It's just a great new concept. That's how I like to fish the Neko in the pre-spawn and spawn times of the year.
